An integral part of the scientific life of the University of Latvia (UL) is the annual international scientific conference, which will take place from January to March 2025. Faculty of Humanities (FH) will organize 20 sessions at the 83rd International Scientific Conference of the University of Latvia. The sessions will cover a wide range of research topics and questions, involving young scientists and researchers from different disciplines.

The UL’s international scientific conference offers a unique platform for scientific discussions and collaborations at local and international level, promoting innovation development and mutual exchange of experience.

The Opening Academic Plenary Session will take place on January 29, 2025, at 1:00 PM in the Small Hall of the University of Latvia (Raiņa bulvāris 19). The plenary session will be opened by the Rector of the University of Latvia, Professor Gundars Bērziņš. A keynote lecture will be delivered by sociologist and University of Latvia tenured professor Inta Mieriņa. The scientist has recently been awarded a prestigious European Research Council grant to study societal attitudes towards migrants, exploring differences and reasons in the context of Russia's war in Ukraine.

30 January, 10.00–12.00, UL FH English Department will host the session "Research Diversity in Action = Pētījumu daudzveidība praksē". The session will take place online, on the MsTeams platform, working language - English.

30 January, 14.00–18.00, UL FH Institute of Philosophy and Sociology will organize the session "Revīzija nācijai: juridiskais, filozofiskais un socioloģiskais aspekts". The session will be held in person, Raiņa bulvāris 19, Small Hall, working language – Latvian.

13–14 February, UL FH Department of History and Archaeology will host the session "Lietas, vietas un indivīdi vēstures naratīvā = Stories of Things, Places and Individuals: How Microhistories Shape Historical Narratives". The session will be held in person, Kalpaka bulvāris 4, 1st floor conference room, working language – English, Latvian.

20–21 February, UL FH Institute of Latvian History will host the session "Apģērba un tekstiliju vēsture Ziemeļeiropā un Austrumeiropa = Historical Clothing and Textiles in Northern and Eastern Europe". The session will take place online, on the Facebook page, working language - English.

21 February, the doctoral students at the UL FH Department of Philosophy and Ethics will organize the session "Jēga un autonomija = Meaning and Autonomy". The session will be held in person, Aspazijas bulvāris 5, working language – Latvian.

21 February, UL FH International Institute of Indic Studies will host the session "Vides faktoru ietekme uz apziņu". The session will be held in person, Aspazijas bulvāris 5, 300. aud., working language – Latvian.

27 February, UL FH Department of Theology and Religious Studies will host the session "Reliģija un / vai kultūra? Paralēles, pretrunas, meklējumi = Religion and/or Culture? Parallels, Contradictions, and Explorations". The session will be held in person, Raiņa bulvārī 19, 161. aud., working language – Latvian and English.

28 February, UL FH Institute of Latvian History will hold the session "Pašu elki vai sveši dievi: sinkrētisms ticējumos un reliģiskos kultos = Own Idols or Foreign Gods: Syncretism in Beliefs and Religious Cults". The session will be held in person, Kalpaka bulvāris 4, 2nd floor conference room, and online, working language – Latvian and English.

28 February, UL FH Centre for French Language and Frankophone Studies will organize the session"Valodas, teksti, kultūras romāņu valodu telpā = Langues, textes, cultures dans l’espace des langues romanes". The session will be held in person, Visvalža ielā 4a, working language – Latvian and French.

4–5 March, UL FH Institute of Philosophy and Sociology will organize the session "VPP projekts "Sabiedrības saliedētības vektori" = SRP project "Vectors of Societal Cohesion"". The session will be held in person, Kalpaka bulvāris 4, 2nd floor conference room, working language – Latvian.

6 March, UL FH Department of Latvian and Baltic Studies will host the session “20.gadsimta 70.gadu sākums latviešu prozā = The Beginning of the 1970s in Latvian Prose". The session will be held in person, Visvalža ielā 4a, working language – Latvian and English.

7–8 March, UL FH Department of European languages will host the session "Globālie un lokālie procesi slāvu valodās, literatūrā un kultūrā 8 = Global un Local Trends in Slavic Languages, Literature un Culture 8". The session will be held in person, Visvalža ielā 4a, 205. aud., working language – Latvian and English.

12 March, UL FH Department of European languages will host the session "Pontes ad fontes. Ābramam Feldhūnam 110". The session will be held in person, Visvalža ielā 4a, 305. aud., working language – Latvian.

14 March, UL FH Institute of Latvian History will organize the session "Starpdisciplināri pētījumi par Vikingu laikmetu Latvijā". The session will be held in person, Kalpaka bulvāris 4, 2nd floor conference room, working language – Latvian.

14 March, UL FH Department of European languages will host the session "Spāņu valodas apguve Latvijā: pētījumi, problēmas, izaicinājumi". The session will be held in person Kalpaka bulvāris 4, working language – Latvian.

17 March, philosophy research group at the UL FH Institute of Philosophy and Sociology will organize the session "Globālisms un globalizācija: tēmas un skatījumi filozofijā un ideju vēsturē". The session will be held in person, Kalpaka bulvāris 4, 2nd floor conference room, working language – Latvian.

18 March, sociology and oral history research group at the UL FH Institute of Philosophy and Sociology will organize the session "Globālais un lokālais: sabiedrības dinamika sociālo pētījumu skatījumā = Global and local: dynamics of society from the perspective of social studies". The session will be held in person, Kalpaka bulvāris 4, 2nd floor conference room, working language – Latvian and English.

19 March, UL FH Institute of Philosophy and Sociology will organize the session "Vairāk nekā čatboti: MI sarunrīku funkcijas, ietekmes robežas un pielietojamības problēmas = More Than Chatbots: Functions, Limits of Impact, and Applicability Issues of Conversational AI". The session will be held in person, Kalpaka bulvāris 4, 2nd floor conference room, working language – Latvian.

20 March, UL FH Department of Philosophy and Ethics and Department of Geography at the Faculty of Science and Technology UL will organize the session "Daba: starpdisciplinārā perspektīva = Nature: An Interdisciplinary perspective". The session will be held in person, Jelgavas iela 1, working language – Latvian and English.

20–21 March, UL FH Department of Philosophy and Ethics and Department of History and Archaeology will organize the session "Romantisms vēstures zinātnē un vēstures filozofijā: no nāciju mītiem līdz ģeopolitiskām imaginācijām = Romanticism in Historical Science and Philosophy of History: From Myths of Nations to Geopolitical Imaginations".
