My name is Anabel Anastasia Smirnova. My student life started two years ago when I enrolled on the English Philology programme at the University of Latvia. I come from Russia, and I have chosen this university because of high quality of education.

Before the enrolment I had an opportunity to visit the Faculty of Humanities, to get introduced with its facilities and the programme director. Since then, my life has changed completely. The study process takes a lot of my time, doing a lot of homework, but it is worth it. During lectures, we work in groups, create interesting projects and complete tasks which require creative thinking. The university widely uses distance learning when required, and we have access to online learning resources. During the coronavirus pandemic semester, we did not take a break in our studies but used the platform Microsoft Teams, which was very convenient. In addition, the University of Latvia has an e-learning (Moodle) environment, where useful materials and tests are uploaded.

A special advantage of the programme is a second foreign language. I have Spanish. My lecturer is a real professional who knows how to encourage students to study and make the learning process exciting. My marks are quite high, and I am thinking of going on an Erasmus exchange programme to develop my Spanish language skills. One of the disadvantages may be that some elective subjects or guest lectures are delivered in Latvian, which is inconvenient for international students.

Overall, all lecturers apply modern technologies, have a profound knowledge of the subject, well-developed organizational skills, high professional ethics and the ability to involve students in the study process with their knowledge. The schedule is fine, there is an opportunity to join a sports club and participate in other extracurricular activities.

It is quite hard to make your choice when you are a school graduate, but I am glad I made mine!
