--------------------------------------------------------------------- Center for Korean Studies which located at the faculty of Humanities of University of Latvia and opened in 2016 with the financial support from Academy of Korean Studies, the Ministry of Education of Republic of Korea, has signed the agreement of mutual cooperation with the National Assembly Library of Republic of Korea which enables the students and scholars in Latvia to get the direct access to the digital collection of academic articles and references archived in the library. The National Assembly Library of the Republic of Korea, established in 1952 in the midst of the 1950-1953 Korean War undertakes the tasks of collecting global knowledge and information and providing them to the parliament and the people for the purpose of contributing to the development of parliamentary democracy and people’s quality of life, as well as preserving the intellectual cultural heritage of mankind for future generations. The Library’s collections are mainly made up of resources in the humanities and social sciences as well as parliamentary materials and government publications of foreign nations. As a legal depository library, we have materials and publications from many international organizations including the UN and the EU. The library has the abundant digitalized collection of academic periodicals and dissertations published in many governmental institutions and universities of which full text materials can be browsed also at designated foreign institutions which have signed the co-operation agreement with the library, without visiting the National Assembly Library in Korea. Center for Korean Studies is one of those institutions in oversee which gained the access to the full text materials, and proudly the first and only institution in the whole North-Eastern Europe. Not all the full text materials are accessible in oversee institutions, however the amount of accessible full text materials is growing and now comprised around 70% of all digitalized archive depending on fields. Center for Korean Studies equiped itself with 2 laptops with access to the library and one more access will be installed soon at the AsiaRes reading room in Latvian National Library, too. Our center can be visited by anybody from Monday to Thursday (1 PM – 5 PM) and located at Visvalza 4a – 105. You will be assisted by our staff to seek for materials, if necessary.
